Single Review – “Feel You” by I’ll show you magic
Written By: Ro Salas
A new band is in town. Emerging from the LA indie scene, I’ll show you magic is reviving new wave shoegaze and indie rock with their new track, “Feel You.”
Pulling from post-punk and new wave sounds, “Feel You” is seductive and dark. The track features wispy vocals over dreamy, distorted guitar backed with heavy bass elements. Similar to the bands julie and Glixen, I’ll show you magic’s essence is melancholic and existential.
The song came after the singer, Eva Smittle, kept dwelling on a thought-provoking question: “For most of my songs, I prefer to keep the minutiae of the meanings up to interpretation. I will say that I wrote the second verse and outro this year though, and the general question I dwelt on was the idea of ‘would you still do it again if somebody told you how it would end?’” she shares.
“I write a lot about desire and how the pursuit of it is often the ultimate catalyst for our development as people. Whether it be dreams, inanimate objects or people, I always try to be grateful for the places my human desires have taken me, whether I ever caught what I was chasing or not,” she adds.
The band began as a solo project by Eva back in 2022. Coming in waves, “after a tarot reading and 50 Cent-induced sleep paralysis,” the singer says, and then writing sessions with her friend Avi Henig, the magical birth of I’ll show you magic occurred.
Eva was living in NYC at the time and was singing for the band, Birthday Girl, which she is still part of. It wasn’t until she moved to LA that her writing began to flourish. She worked closely with producers Devon Corey and Nicolas Gomez to capture her vocals and sound. Then, her friend, Mia Szabó, joined forces with Eva as the band’s bassist. Eva shares that she’s continuing to write songs, bringing in Mia to help co-write.
Playing three shows so far, with their latest performance at the Zebulon Cafe for Rocknite.la, I’ll show you magic, is a band that you should definitely be on the lookout for. Don’t wait to catch their next performance and new releases.
