Anxiety and Uncertainty with a touch of whimsy: The Two Lips Debut EP girl, c’mon! is a perfect record for your 20s

After months of continually teasing new music, The Two Lips have officially released their highly anticipated debut EP, girl, c’mon!

The Two Lips is a Los Angeles-based dream / indie pop band formed by duo Andrea Flowers and Julia “Jewlz” Gurule. Before officially starting the band, the two had been trying to find a way to get their solo musical careers off the ground. Jewlz had been working at a restaurant after graduating with a music degree in music production, while Andrea worked as a teacher after earning her master’s degree in education. After meeting each other for the first time in 2022, the pair began making music together, a process that came naturallyto them. Thus, the pair officially started making music together under their original name, The Tulips.

The duo released their first song together, titled “do you know back,” in 2023 and began gaining traction online. After releasing several songs, the pair found success with their single “still love you (todavía)” in early 2025. The song went viral on TikTok and has since amassed over 40 million streams on Spotify.

Finally, after two years since their first song, the pair officially released their debut EP, girl, c’mon!, on November 7, 2025. The release explores the tumultuous experiences of girlhood, breakups, and the transitional period associated with your twenties. “girl, c’mon! is a love letter to ourselves and everyone finding their way through their twenties,” the pair stated on Instagram. “the title is a reminder to pick yourself up, to keep going, even when life feels heavy or uncertain.”

The EP kicks off with the lyrics “press play” in the song “play,” transporting the listener into the EP’s world and story. “play” is about the inevitable fallout that happens in some friendships, especially toxic ones. The song touches upon empty promises, messiness, and becoming the villain in someone’s story. “People drift and people change / But with you I feel the same,” the duo sing, “If I’m the villain in your story / Let it play.”

“it’s complicated” is a standout and personal favorite track off the EP. The beginning beats remind me of Beabadoobee’s “Talk” from her album Beatopia. While taking inspiration from Beabadoobee’s song, the track also embodies toned-down guitar riffs reminiscent of early 2000s rock songs. The track details the never-ending back-and-forths and ups and downs of being in a situationship. It also perfectly encapsulates the inevitable debrief with your friends over the situationship and only being able to reply, “It’s complicated.”

“enemy” talks about how you can become your “own worst enemy.” The duo sings about self-sabotage, dealing with insecurities, and self-destructive tendencies. The fourth track, “something stupid,” circles back to themes touched upon in the opening track. The song reflects back on nostalgic memories and slowly growing up apart from the ones you love over time. Despite growing apart, they “pray the best things happen” to the people they outgrew.

The next song, “cup of tea,” deals with the struggles of self-worth and learning to love yourself. “cup of tea” might be one of the rawest songs on the album, despite the light-hearted “La la la’s” punctuating throughout the song. Diving deep into romance, “if you said” is a dreamy pop ballad about doing anything for the one you love. The duo perfectly captures the feelings of devotion and awe toward the end of the song, when the drums and guitar lead the song to a close. The gut-wrenching and raw feeling of love is felt in the chorus as the duo sings, “If you said ‘go,’ I’d run / If you said ‘stay,’ I’ll come to you / I’ll hold you softly till you tell me to leave, and / If you said ‘love me,’ what else can I do? / What else can I do?”

The final track, “happy for me,” closes off the EP with a whimsical and magical sound. It’s a song exploring the complexities of a relationship, as one partner’s dreams begin to come true, while the other person hopes their relationship can withstand these changes. The pair worked on the track with Rebecca Sugar, who previously wrote “Remember You” on the tv series Adventure Time and wrote songs for her own show Steven Universe. Her influence can be felt as the glittering sounds of the omnichord accompany the duo’s light and airy vocals.

girl, c’mon! is one of my favorite releases of 2025. The Two Lips’ ability to balance whimsy and rawness, when encapsulating the experience of your 20s, is something they do so perfectly on this EP. The future is bright for the pair and girl, c’mon! is only the beginning.
